Keyboard shortcuts
Every key that does something in the editor, the clue boxes and the player.
Everywhere in the editor
On a Mac, use Cmd where this page says Ctrl.
- Alt+Shift+1, 2, 3 or 4: go to Shape, Fill, Clues or Style mode.
- Ctrl+Z: undo.
- Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y: redo.
- Escape: close a window or menu. In the Fill grid it moves you on to the buttons below the grid, so you are never stuck in it.
- In a menu: Down and Up arrows move, Home and End jump, Escape closes.
Shape mode
- Arrow keys: move between squares.
- Space or Enter: switch the square between block and light.
- Alt+arrow: put a bar on that side of the square, or take it off (barred grids and bars).
- In lock mode (locking squares to keep when you generate again): arrow keys move and Space locks or unlocks the square.
Fill mode
- Letters: type into the square and move on.
- Backspace: clear the letter in the square, or, if it is empty, step back and clear the one before. Delete: clear the letter in the square without moving, or the letters of the selected squares.
- Arrow keys: move between squares.
- Space: switch between across and down.
- Tab and Shift+Tab: next and previous answer.
- Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V: copy, cut and paste the word you are in.
- Ctrl+Enter: accept a forced letter.
Clues mode
- Tab or Enter: the next clue. Shift+Tab: the previous clue.
- Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U: bold, italic and underline the selected text.
- Ctrl+Shift+V: paste as plain text.
- Ctrl+F: open Find and replace.
In the player
Solvers use the same keys on any puzzle page.
- Letters: fill the square. Backspace and Delete clear it.
- Arrow keys: move. The first arrow press across the direction of the answer turns the cursor.
- Space: switch between across and down.
- Tab or Enter: the next clue with a gap. Shift+Tab or Shift+Enter: the previous.
- Escape: leave the grid for the buttons (Check, Reveal, Clear and the timer).
